Tenant fit-out begins – openings planned for spring 2027
Mülheim an der Ruhr, August 26, 2026 – The redevelopment of Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum (RRZ) has reached another important milestone: the premises for Kaufland, Müller and McFIT have been handed over to the respective tenants. The three companies will now begin fitting out their new stores and preparing them for opening.
New anchor tenants on substantial premises
Over the coming months, Kaufland, Müller and McFIT will fit out their premises in line with their respective store and usage concepts. The handover marks the beginning of the next visible phase in the transformation of RRZ. The new anchor tenants also make a strong statement in terms of scale: With approximately 4,500 square meters of retail space, Kaufland is taking over the largest of the new retail spaces and will open a supermarket there offering a wide selection of groceries and everything needed for daily life. Müller will move into around 2,400 square metres and offer a full range including cosmetics, drugstore products, stationery, toys and haberdashery. Kaufland and Müller alone will therefore occupy around 9,700 square metres in total. McFIT complements the offer in the fitness and leisure segment and will undertake a full refurbishment of the unit, including the installation of new equipment and facilities.
From demolition to handover
Over the past months, the premises have been prepared for their new tenants as part of the ongoing redevelopment of Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum. Following the completion of the necessary preparatory works, the areas for Kaufland, Müller and McFIT have now been handed over. With this milestone reached, the project is moving into the next phase: the individual tenant fit-outs and preparations for opening.
In parallel with the interior works, extensive external works are also under way. The area surrounding the the centre is being comprehensively remodelled, creating new entrances and access routes and giving the RRZ a modernised look and feel.
Openings in spring 2027
According to the current schedule, the three new concepts are set to open successively in spring 2027. With Kaufland, Müller and McFIT, Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum is gaining three strong footfall-driving tenants that will strategically complement the existing tenant mix.
Part of the comprehensive transformation of RRZ
The new premises form part of the comprehensive redevelopment of Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum. Eurofund Group and its partners are investing around EUR 180 million in the coming years to modernise and reposition the destination. The aim is to further strengthen RRZ as a shopping, leisure and meeting place for the entire Rhine-Ruhr region.
The handover to the tenants completes an important structural and organisational milestone. While the individual fit-outs are now under way, further measures are being implemented across the centre in parallel to continuously enhance the offer and quality of stay.
The planned openings of Kaufland, Müller and McFIT in spring 2027 will mark the next major step in the ongoing transformation of Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum.
